How to play the game of Hearts

    What is Hearts

Hearts is a card game for four players where the goal is to score as few points as possible over several rounds. It is played with regular playing cards without jokers.
We want to make it clear that all types of tactical play ARE ALLOWED in Hearts and tournaments.

    The rules of Hearts

When playing free online Hearts, each player is dealt 13 cards, which are then exchanged according to the following rules:

    • In the first round, three cards are dealt to the player on the left and three cards are received from the player on the right.

    • In the second round, three cards are dealt to the player on the right and three cards are received from the player on the left.

    • In the third round, three cards are exchanged with the player opposite.

    • In the fourth round, no exchange is made.

    • In the fifth round, exchanges are made as in the first round and so on.

The player with the 2 of clubs starts the game and is forced to play that card. Then the other players play out. This means that each round must follow suit as much as possible, so in the first round everyone will always have to play a club unless they have none, and thus have no opportunity to play that suit. Hearts and the Queen of Spades can never be played in the first round, as these are scoring cards. When each player has played a card, the four cards are dealt to the player who has played the highest card in the chosen suit, which is called a trick. If there are any hearts or queen of spades among the cards dealt, points are scored according to the following rules:

    • Hearts give 1 point

    • Queen of spades gives 13 points

The player who was dealt cards starts the next turn and is free to choose between playing a club, a spade or a diamond. It is only allowed to discard/play Hearts as the first card after a Heart has been played among the other cards - hearts must be opened before they can be played. If you only have hearts in your hand, they can also be played as the first card.

If a player collects ALL hearts and the Queen of Spades in one round, it is called a collector. If you get a collector, all other players get 26 points and you get 0.

The game ends when a player has at least 100 points, and the winner is the player with the fewest points. If two players have the lowest number of points, the game is a draw.

    Rating

When you win a match, you are awarded a rating based on the difference between your own and your opponents' ratings. If you beat an opponent with a high rating, you get more than if you beat an opponent with a low rating. Your opponents lose the corresponding rating, and vice versa if you lose. The game will, as far as possible, try to match you with opponents with similar ratings.

You can't sit on a high rating for long. If you have not played for a few days, your rating will automatically start to drop.

    Tokens

You get tokens for playing and especially for winning matches. A game always pays 5,000 regardless of the outcome. A single round win is worth 1,000, a victory in a rated match is worth 25,000 tokens, a victory over friends is worth 15,000 tokens and a training victory is worth 10.000 tokens.

In the game shop you can buy gold hearts, which can be used to buy new card sets, backs, frames, game backgrounds and tables. Whether you want to buy things is completely voluntary and you can play Heart Free for free at Komogvind.

    Hearts history

The card game Hearts is a popular card game played all over the world, especially in North America. While the exact history of the game is hard to pinpoint, there are some theories and assumptions about its origins.

One theory suggests that Hearts originated in the 19th century in the United States. It is believed that the game evolved from an older card game called "Ricketts" that was played in England. Ricketts was a trick-taking game where players tried to avoid winning certain cards or tricks. It is believed that Ricketts was introduced in the US and later evolved into Hearts, where the focus was on avoiding heart cards and the Queen of Spades.

Another theory suggests that Hearts is a variant of the French card game "Jeu de Tarot". Tarot decks are known for their complexity and many rules, and it is believed that a simplified version of Tarot was developed in the US, resulting in Hearts.

Regardless of its origins, Hearts has become one of the most popular card games in the world. It is played both as a social game among friends and family and as a competitive game in tournaments. The game involves strategic planning, card counting and trying to avoid earning points by winning certain cards. Its accessibility and entertainment value have made it a timeless favorite among card players across generations and the great thing is that nowadays you can play Heartless online.
